W. H. Fred Brown(Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Rev. W. H. Fred Brown passed away in Amarillo on Friday, March 16, 2007 at the age of 81. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, March 20, 2007 in the First United Methodist Church in Tulia with Rev. Perry Hunsaker, associate pastor of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Amarillo officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. He was born in Cookville, Tennessee on October 31, 1925 to Comer and Lora (Sedville) Brown. He moved to the Texas panhandle at the age of 6 and lived in and around the Happy/ Tulia area, graduating from Happy High School. He volunteered for the Navy in 1943 and served in the South Pacific during WWII. He returned to the Tulia area following the war and married Betty Jo Fletcher. In 1958 he was called to the ministry and became a Methodist minister. He was a graduate of McMurry College in Abilene and Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He served the Northwest Texas Methodist Conference for 32 years. Area communities where he served include Dodson, Turkey, Hart, Lubbock, Petersburg and Pampa. Fred is preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Homer Amerson. Also his wife of 52 years, Betty Jo Brown, two brothers and a sister who died in childhood, and his brother Lloyd Brown. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law; DeRhonda and Greg Crosby of Canadian, three sons and daughters-in-law; David and Pat Brown of Garland, Steve and Betty Brown of Jackson, Missouri, Paul and Bernice Brown of Amarillo, 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Also one brother; Donald Ray Brown of Phoenix, Arizona and his sister; Sue Land of Munday and his sister-in-law; Geraldine Brown of Tulia. In addition, he is survived by many good and close friends of Bill. The family suggests memorials to the Rose Hill Cemetery, P.O. Box 116, Tulia, Texas 79088.
