Tulia, Texas—Jane Basaldua, 61, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011 in Amarillo. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at The Church of the Holy Spirit with Father Marcos Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A rosary will be held Tuesday evening, January 25, 2011 at 6:00 P.M. Jane was born on May 31, 1949 in Mission, Texas to Patricio and Manuela Basaldua. She grew up in Tulia and attended schools there. She catered for many different occasions and was also a cook and kitchen supervisor for the Senior Citizens. She later cooked on Wednesday evenings for the First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Guadalapana’s, secretary for the South Deanery. She worked on the funeral committee, Jamaica, worked with the Youth at the church. She was nominated as the Woman of the Year for the Diocese of Amarillo. Even after losing her home in the 2007 Tornado, she cooked for the Clean-up volunteers. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Abel Basaldua, Sr., David Basaldua, Theresa Mireles, Guadalupe Ramirez, and Mary Lou Casias. Survivors include her four children, Juliet Pearl of Churubusco, IN, Jo Ann Fernandez of Tulia, Janet Reyes of Tulia, Joe Fernandez, Jr. of Henderson, Nevada; five sisters, Mary Macias of Tulia, Trinidad Granado of Dumas, Elva Reyna of Lubbock, Emma Garcia of Spearman, Juanita Garcia of Nebraska; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
