Silverton, Texas-John H. “Johnny” Peery, 83, of Silverton passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, April 16, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Tell Cemetery in Tell, Texas. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mr. Peery was born on January 18, 1924 in Childress. He grew up and attended schools in Tell. He graduated from Tell High School in 1941. He farmed for a few years until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944. He served for 2 ½ years during WWII. After serving his country, he returned to Tell and opened a full service gas station for many years. He moved his family to Turkey in 1958 where he was a partner in the Peery-Dugan Inc. Oil Company for over 40 years. He retired and in 1998, moved to Silverton. He was a member of the Church of Christ, a member of the VFW, and was an avid gardener. He married Claudine Crain on April 3, 1943. Survivors include his wife, Claudine Peery of Silverton; three children, Roy L. “Pete” Peery and his wife Pat of Bowie, TX, JonEtta Ziegler and her husband Brad of Silverton, TX, Mary McMurtry and her husband Kelly of Amarillo, TX; one brother, Bill Peery of Childress; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, John Paul “Smoky” Peery in 1959. A visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors, 201 W. Broadway, Tulia, Texas.
