Bill R. Cartwright (Plainview)

Bill R. Cartwright, 72, of Plainview passed away Sunday, April 15, 2007 at 6:45 a.m. in Covenant Hospital Plainview. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at Garland Street Church of Christ with Russell Harris and Kim Hays officiating. Interment will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. Cartwright was born in Wilbarger County, Texas on December 4, 1934 to Lon A. & Gladys Jones Cartwright. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1954 and attended West Texas State University from 1954 to 1955. Bill graduated from the Texas Highway Patrol School in 1956 and married Leona Green on September 5, 1956 in Plainview Bill was assigned to serve in the Highway Patrol in Alpine, and later assigned to Dumas. He served for 5 years until he returned to Plainview in 1960 and began working for Green Machinery. At Green Machinery he worked various positions until becoming General Manger which he held until the company closed in1985. He became a Real Estate Broker in 1980 and in 1985 he established Bill Cartwright, Inc. Bill worked actively in the Irrigation Pump and Real Estate businesses from that time until the present. He and his dad shared in their membership in the Hale County Sheriff’s Posse. He served at Garland Street Church of Christ in many roles including Deacon and Elder. He is survived by his wife Leona of Plainview; three sons and daughters-in-law. Rick and Ronda Cartwright of Lubbock, Troy and Tai Cartwright of Abilene, and Kip and Pam Cartwright of Duncanville; seven grandchildren, Casey, Dakota, Brooklyn, Madisson, Delaney, Kaden and Gracie Cartwright. He was preceded in death by, his mother and father Lon A. and Gladys Jones Cartwright, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Emmett and Mary Green, brother Lon D. Cartwright, and a sister Winnie Noel.
