Julia Estelle South (Plainview)

Julia Estelle South, 81, of Plainview, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in Plainview. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Mr. Mike Allison officiating. Interment will follow in Silverton Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held Friday, February 18, 2011 from 6-7 p.m. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Julia Estelle South was born March 7th 1929 in Plainview, Texas to Gay and Effie Witcher. Julia married Cecil Walter South August 1st 1945. Julia and her husband, Cecil, moved to California in 1946, where they lived until 1993. She spent much of her adult life living in rural California, where she helped her husband with olive ranching. For a time, she worked in electronics manufacturing building circuit boards, including one that went into a satellite that monitored the Earth’s ozone layer. After retirement, she obtained her State Weigh-Master license and ran a semi truck scale for several years. In 1993 she and her husband returned to her hometown of Silverton, TX. After his death, Julia went to Bakersfield, CA. In 2008 Julia moved back to Texas and resided in Plainview. Julia is survived by her four children, Lois Wood and husband Bernard of Yucaipa, CA, Larry South and wife Twila of Bakersfield, CA, Brenda James and husband Mark of Plainview, TX, Jim South and wife Cathy of Coeur D’Alene, ID, a brother Kenneth Witcher and a sister Georgia Edsell both of Porterville CA, eleven grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Julia is preceded in death by her husband Cecil Walter South; her parents Gay and Effie Witcher; her brother Raymond Witcher; her sisters Rachel Armstrong and Nola Gay Miller.
