Viola Wood (Plainview)

Viola Wood, 98, of Olton, passed away on Monday, February 28, 2011 in Lubbock. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011 Center Plains Cemetery in Cotton Center, Texas with Mr. Cary Branscum (grandson-in-law) officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2011 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Viola was born on August 19, 1912 in Erath County, Texas to J.C. and Della Harris. She grew up and attended schools there. She married Arthur William “A.W.” Wood on September 6, 1930 in Paducah, Texas. They lived in Olton, Cotton Center before moving to Greenwood, Arkansas in the early 1970’s. She was a cook and served in the Food Industry off and on her whole life. She moved back to Olton Texas in 2001 and has resided in the Running Water Draw Care Center for the last several years. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Viola was preceded in death by her husband A.W. Wood; one daughter, Ona Marie Wood; two sons, Joe Wood and Don Wood; two grandsons, Scott Bryant and Jon Keith Bryant; and two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her daughter Charlotte Tucker and husband Carlis of Earth, Texas; one sister, Gladys Wood of Olton, Texas; special families of the heart, Duane and Jo Anna Tucker of Bayfield, Colorado, and Don and Marita Barnett of Edmond, OK; 6 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren, and 8 Great Great Grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the Runningwater Draw Care Center, P.O. Box 409, Olton, Texas 79064.
