Tulia, Texas—Jeff L. Bivens, 83, died Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in Amarillo. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, March 7, 2011 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Tulia. Mr. Greg Culwell will officiate. Cremation services are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Jeff was born May 14, 1927 to Luther and Virgie Bivens in Tulia. He grew up in Swisher County and attended schools here. He was raised on the farm and ranch and loved to raise horses. He joined the US Army in 1944. After he was discharged he returned to Wayside and trained horses for the McGhee Brothers. He later moved to Hereford and started a front-end alignment and brake shop. He returned to Tulia in 1956. He also custom farmed, hailed hay, hauled gravel but most importantly he raised horses. He is survived by two sons and two daughters: Ray Bivens and wife Jill of Perryton, Ronald Bivens and wife Becky of Vigo Park, Rita Hamilton and husband Dale of Brownwood and Laquita Bell and husband Danny of Amarillo, one brother and two sisters: Bob Bivens and wife Norma of Reno, Nevada, Linda Jarnigan and husband Richard of Amarillo and Vicki Bivens, nine grandchildren: Jeff W. Bivens, Jason Bivens, James Bivens, John Bivens, William Hamilton, Robert Hamilton, Andrew Goodrum, Nikki Brumley and Tyler Bivens and 20 great grandchildren.
