Weldon 'Cotton' Gibson (Plainview)

Weldon “Cotton” Gibson, 79, of Plainview, passed away Friday, March 4, 2011 in Lubbock. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Plainview Cemetery, with T.C. Collins officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held Monday, March 7, 2011 from 6-7 p.m. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Weldon was born on December 10, 1931 in Eric, Oklahoma to Marley Wayne and Viola Dodson Gibson. He attended school in Plainview. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Gibson worked at various grain elevators in Plainview. After his retirement he spent much of his time at Allsup’s where he made numerous friends and enjoyed his hobby of playing the Scratch-Off Lottery. Weldon married Shirley Gibson Ray on September 3, 1952. She preceded him in death. He married Ruth Gibson in 1970 and she also preceded him in death. Weldon is survived by his seven children: Patricia Couch McCain and husband Gregg of Plainview, Cora Bankston and husband Ilan Wayne of San Antonio, Dewayne Gibson, Jr. and wife Shirley of Plainview, Dennis Gibson and wife Sandy of Paris, TX, Tim Gibson of Seminole, Sammie Gibson and Stephania Gibson Crawford both of Vanceburg, KY; one brother: Howard “Hoot” Gibson of Plainview; one sister: Madeline Palasano of Farmington, NM; fifteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter: Sabrina Gibson, a daughter-in-law: Pam Gibson, a son-in-law: Dennis Couch; two brothers, two sisters and one grandchild.
