Tulia, Texas—Robert E. (Bob) Goodwin, 98, died Monday, March 7, 2011 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011 in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Robert Eugene Goodwin was born to Abner and Nary Goodwin on December 7, 1912 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He moved to Borger, Texas in 1927 and graduated from Borger High School in 1931. He married Evalyn Loraine McCarty on February 26, 1933 in Guymon, Oklahoma. Bob worked in grocery stores in Borger, Phillips, Pampa and Dalhart. He moved his family to Tulia on January 1, 1950 and opened his own grocery store business. He retired and sold Bob’s Supermarket in 1979. During retirement he was involved in many activities at the Senior Citizens Center, keeping in touch with many of his Tulia friends and former customers. Bob was an avid golfer and played most weekdays until health prohibited him from doing so. He brought newspapers and popcorn for residents on his daily visits to the Tulia Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Tulia. He is preceded in death by his wife, Evalyn, and her sister, Dorothy Rhoads. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law: Gloria and R.L. (Butch) Bryan of Tulia, three sons and daughters-in-law: Robert C. and Linda Goodwin of Austin, William (Bill) and Penny Goodwin of Plano and John E. and Jeane Goodwin of Amarillo. His 7 grandchildren: Regina Emmitt and husband, John of Austin, Barbara Young and husband John of Lubbock, Robert Bryan and wife Lynne of Nacogdoches, Charles Goodwin and wife, Triss of Belmont, CA, Susan O’Shana and husband Rob of Austin, Katrina Nash and husband Nick of New Albany, OH and Kim Swanson and husband David of Carrolton, his 12 great grandchildren: Erin Emmitt of Austin, Jennifer Kidd and husband Brandon of Lubbock and Jaclyn Young of Austin, Kristin Bryan, Shelby Bryan and Valerie Bryan, all of Nacogdoches, Bradley Goodwin of Belmont, CA, Sam O’Shana and Noah O’Shana of Austin, Ben Nash and Ryan Nash of New Albany, OH, Christian Swanson and Audrey Swanson of Carrolton. He is also survived by one half-brother: John Syrios of Arlington and one niece; Mary Helen Patton and husband L.M. of Sulphur, Louisiana.
