Robert "Bob" Watson (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Robert (Bob) Watson, 83, died Sunday, March 13, 2011 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Kay Reed and Rev. Ernie McGaughey officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Bob was born November 4, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa to Dr. Harold and Martha Watson. He was in the Navy when he graduated from Indianola High School in 1946. After he received a medical discharge he attended the University of Oklahoma. He married Julia Collins Smith on December 23, 1951. In 1952 he received his BBA in Accounting with honors. After graduation he went to work for Arthur Andersen and Co. in Dallas. In Sept. 1955 they moved to Plainview where he bought a bookkeeping and income tax practice. In April 1956 he moved to Tulia to go in partnership with Lloyd Thomas. After the partnership was dissolved he continued on his own. In May 1970 he received a Masters of Business Administration in Accounting from West Texas State University. He was active in the First United Methodist Church as an adult and youth Sunday school teacher. He also served on the finance committee there. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and treasurer of the Republican Party. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a grandson, Joel Robert Watson. He is survived by one daughter: Virginia Watson of Tulia, two sons: Jimmy Watson of Tyler and Johnny Watson and wife Rhonda of Aledo, one granddaughter: Laura Kay Watson of Aledo, one brother: Stuart Watson and wife Marie of Surprise, Arizona, one brother-in-law: Jack B. Smith and wife M.L. of Duncan, Oklahoma, one sister-in-law: Cecelia Beck and husband Jesse of Edmond, Oklahoma, several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 119 N. Briscoe, Tulia, TX 79088 or to the Odyssey Hospice, 7201 Evans, Amarillo, TX 79106.
