Monroe Ernest Kokel was born to Edwin and Hilda Kokel at Lockney, Texas on December 6, 1931. He farmed with his father near the Cousins Community, northeast of Plainview before moving to the farm east of Kress in 1944. Monroe’s life was his farming, family and church. He was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plainview on April 14, 1946. He graduated from Kress High School in 1951. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plainview where he served as head usher and on the board of trustees for many years. God called Monroe to his heavenly home on April 25, 2007 from the home of his sister, Elizabeth Hill in Hooks, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Frances Kokel, one nephew and one niece. He is survived by his two sisters, Elizabeth Hill and husband Robert, and Edwina Johnson and husband Jack of Quitaque, Texas, one nephew, four nieces, 22 grandnieces and nephews. Services will be at 10:00 am Saturday, April 28, 2007, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Gerald Boerger, Pastor and Rev. John Hill of Casper, Wyoming. Burial will follow the worship service at Plainview Memorial Park by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Family and friends are invited back to the St. Paul Parish Hall for a noon meal. The family has suggested that memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund, 901 Oakland, Plainview, TX 79072 or Faith Lutheran Church, 1701 East Park Blvd., Plano, TX 75074 for their Seminary Scholarship Fund. Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, April 27,2007 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
