Mike Carthel (Plainview)

Our beloved Mike Carthel, 64, of Plainview passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 in Lubbock, TX. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 19, 2011 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Kyle Brock, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church officiating, and Mr. Charlie Ball assisting. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M on Friday, March 18, 2011, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Michael Ray Carthel was born on March 10, 1947 in Plainview to Fred and Jo Carthel. He grew up on farms in Lockney and Farwell communities. He loved the outdoors and the majority of his life worked in farming and agricultural research. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He married Brenda Sanderson in Olton on January 10, 1981, and from previous marriages combined six children. Mike and Brenda square danced for many years and currently belong to the Good Sam Travel Club where they had great times traveling and being with wonderful friends. We will all miss him deeply. He is survived by wife: Brenda of Plainview; mother: Jo Carthel; children: Michael Carthel and wife Cindy, Crissy McDaniel and husband John, Clint Carthel and wife Dianne, Debra Payne and husband Joey, Donna Mulkey and husband Johnny, Brian Sanderson and wife Heather; seventeen grandchildren and one great granddaughter born just 15 days ago.
