Tulia, Texas—Alfredo Chapa, Jr., 62, died Friday, May 6, 2011 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit with Father Marcos Gonzales, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A rosary will be held at 6:00 pm Monday, May 9, 2011 at the funeral home. Alfredo was born January 18, 1949 in Penitas, Texas to Alfredo and Mary Lou Chapa, Sr. He attended schools in Tulia. Alfredo served in the US Air Force from 1968-1972. He worked as a free lance painter and sculptor in California for about 9 years. He attended University of California at Berkeley while in California. He returned to Tulia and worked for Excel and Roll-A-Cone. Survivors include his mother: Mary Lou Chapa of Tulia, two sisters and brothers-in-law: Emma and Joe Hernandez and Irene and Ruben Mireles, both of Tulia, a family friend: John Smith of Coolidge, Kansas, nine nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father: Alfred Chapa, Sr. and a sister: Mary Lou Garcia.
