Vera Melton 95, of Plainview, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011 in Plainview. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at First Baptist Church Family Life Chapel with Dr. Frankie Rainey, professor of Biblical studies and campus pastor of Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary officiating, and Dr. D.L. Lowrie assisting. Burial will follow at Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2011 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Vera was born August 26, 1915 to Earl and Jesse Martin Langridge in Corsicana, Texas where she grew up and attended high school and later worked at K-Woolen’s Department Store. She married Leon A. Melton on May 16, 1937 in Corsicana, Texas. They were married 56 years prior to his death on February 25, 1992 in Plainview. Vera and Leon moved to Plainview in 1945 to farm north of town. In 1948 the family moved to Edmonson where they had purchased the Phillips 66 Jobberish which has a wholesale gas and butane, retail, and warehousing business. Vera worked as the secretary and bookkeeper of their business until they retired in 1974. They moved to Plainview in 1976. Vera was a faithful Christian, devoted and loving wife, and a proud, adoring mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an excellent homemaker and seamstress. She enjoyed her years as Children’s Sunday school teacher and member of the Terrell Sunday School class. She was a member of First Baptist Church Edmonson and Plainview. Vera is preceded in death by her parents, Earl & Jessie Martin Langridge; her husband, Leon A. Melton; one grandson Jeffrey Mart Pool; her son-in-law William Larry Pool; a sister and a brother. She is survived by her daughter Virginia (Ginger) Anita Pool of Plainview; grandson David Leon Pool and his wife Velma (Vel) Jean of Powell, WY; four great grandchildren: Courtnie Marie Pool, Jeffrey Fountian Pool, Matthew David Pool, and Samuel Jack Pool all of Powell, WY; and three nephews: Carlton Holland and his wife Emma, Tommy Holland and his wife Rita and James Earl Wilson; Special Friends and Family; Katie Sherrod and Gayland Pool, Martha Smith, Lee Henderson, LaLa Diaz, and Mary Beth Fox.
