Earl Loyd Kirkland(Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Earl Loyd Kirkland, 83, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011 in Amarillo. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 20, 2011 in the Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Karol Smith, pastor of the First Christian Church of Tulia officiating. Burial is under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Earl was born June 29, 1927 in Swisher County to Edward and Mary Ruth Kirkland. He served in the US Marines during WWII. Earl married Winona Chitty on June 20, 1952. He worked in the oil fields for several years and returned to Tulia and worked for Ed Harris Lumber for several years and then he was the maintenance supervisor for TISD for 20 years before he retired. He is survived by his wife: Winona Kirkland of Tulia, one daughter: Michelle Simmons of Tulia, two sons: Bryan Kirkland of Lubbock and Jessie Kirkland of Amarillo, one brother: Louis Kirkland, two sisters: Thelma Herrington and June Holt, six grandchildren: Matt, Tamara, Mari, Jennifer, Trey and Derrick and four great grandchildren.
