Gennie George, 90, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 28, 2011 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held on Monday afternoon , May 30, 2011 from 4 to 6 P.M. at the funeral home. Gennie was born on March 28, 1921 in Hart, Texas to William and Mary Payne. Her family moved to Tulia when she was very young. She worked at Vaughn’s Style Shop, Bob’s Super Market, and Mid-Plains Rural Telephone Company. She and her husband were long time farmers of Swisher County. After retiring she did volunteer work for the Senior Citizens and R.S.V.P. She also did volunteer work as a Pink Lady in Ruidoso, New Mexico for 15 years. Gennie served on the Senior Citizens Board and the Senior Citizens Foundation Board, and she also served on the Bereavement Committee at the First Baptist Church where she was a member. She enjoyed working with the Senior Citizens as a tour director for 10 years which allowed hereto see a lot of county. She was quilter, avid bowler, and avid sports fan. She married Deryl Wayne George on August 7, 1938 in Clovis, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on January 3, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents; nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include a daughter Gaye Young and husband Don of Tulia; son, Pat George and wife Sue of Tulia; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
