Edith Waits, 89, of Abernathy, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2011 in Plainview. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 3, 2011 at First Church of the Nazarene in Abernathy, TX with Rev. Michael Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Abernathy Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Edith was born to Dee and Marie Hall on March 14, 1922 in Hale County, Texas. She married Monroe Waits on August 14, 1941 in Lubbock, TX. Together they opened Waits Farm Store in 1950 and operated it until the 1980’s. They also had an egg hatchery. They later owned and operated Waits Flower Farm where they gathered wild flowers, dried and shipped them all over. She loved to garden and can food. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Abernathy. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dee and Marie Hall. She is survived by her husband Monroe Waits of Abernathy, TX; four Sons, David Waits and wife Lelloine of Abernathy, TX, Bill Waits of Plainview, TX, Jim Waits and wife Thelma of Zephyrhill, Florida, Joe Waits and wife Lisa of Lubbock, TX; one brother, R.L. Hall of Huntsville, TX; three sisters, Jeanette Marr, Erma Mickey and Florence Hildebrand all of Plainview, TX; thirteen grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
