James A. Miller

James “Jim” A. Miller, 78, of Plainview, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in Plainview, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 16, 2011 at City of Lubbock Cemetery with Rev. Roger Foote officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
Visitation will be Friday, July 15, 2011 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Jim was born on February 13, 1933 to Alfred and Ida Miller, in Foyil, Oklahoma. He graduated high school in Abernathy, Texas in 1951. His parents owned and operated Miller Grocery. He later attended Texas Tech University. Jim was a former county engineer for Lubbock County. He entered the insurance business in 1960. He received his diploma from L.U.T.C in 1962, CLU designation in 1969, earned ChFC designation in first chartered financial consultant class in 1982. He was a member of the Lubbock Area Association of Life Underwriter, the Lubbock Chapter of CLU and ChFC’s, and General Agents and Managers Association. He was a consistent member of his former companies Leaders Club and President’s Cabinet. He is a lifetime member of the Texas Leaders Round Table. In 1978-79 he received the Texas GAMC’s most prestigious J. Frank Smith Award. In 1973 he was recognized by Who’s Who in Texas, and honored as an “Outstanding American in the South” in 1975. He was a member of the Lubbock Lions Club.
Jim is survived by daughter, Kathy Gregory & husband Tony of Plainview, TX, daughter, Erika Harding & husband Brent of Ventura, CA; stepson, Peter Nordberg & wife Christene of Spokane, WA; stepdaughter, Jaye Hersh of Ojai, CA, four grandchildren; Matthew Gregory & wife Jenifer of Plainview, TX, Missy Denson & husband Marcus of Tuscola, TX, Keenan Barrett of Ventura, CA and Kelsey Hersh of Boston, MA; and four great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred & Ida Miller; his brother, Phillip Miller; his sister, Katherine Stevens; and his son, John Miller.
