Phyllis Ann Gruhlkey, 66, of Plainview, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 in Plainview. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega, Texas. A memorial service will follow on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 2:30 P.M. at First United Methodist Church Sanctuary in Plainview, Texas with Rev. Jeff Taylor officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 20, 2011 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Phyllis was born July 25, 1944 to R.L. and Fern (Dewees) Loyd in Amarillo, Texas. She married Perry Gruhlkey on August 10, 1968 in Perryton, Texas. She received a bachelor’s degree in Education, from West Texas A. & M., and taught school in Dalhart and Amarillo. She devoted her time raising her children and later became a volunteer for the Hale County Literacy Council, teaching adults to read. She deeply loved her children and grandchildren. Phyllis was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Gladys Carter Circle, and the New Image Fitness Center where she made many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, R.L. and Fern Loyd. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Perry Gruhlkey of Plainview, TX; two sons, Dr. Jay Gruhlkey & wife Anna of New Braunfels, TX and Cody Gruhlkey & wife Heather of Kress, TX; one sister, Carolyn Linquist & husband Stan of Amarillo, TX; mother-in-law, Ruthie Gruhlkey of Adrian, TX; one brother-in-law, Dwayne Gruhlkey & wife Maggie of Adrian, TX; five grandchildren, Madeline Gruhlkey, Brennan Gruhlkey, Evan Gruhlkey, Austin Gruhlkey, and Laney Gruhlkey; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Hale County Literacy Council, 1900 West 7th CMB 548, Plainview, TX 79072 or to the Memorial Park Cemetery, P.O.
