Tulia, Texas-Santos Basaldua, Sr., 88, of Tulia passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2011 in Amarillo. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit with Father Marco Gonzalez officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Monday, August 1, 2011 at the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Richard Trevino officiating. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. following the memorial service. Santos was born on July 2, 1923 in Mission, Texas. He grew up there and attended schools. He married Olivia Garza on September 8, 1941 in Mission. They moved to Tulia from Spur in 1956. He was a Farm Laborer and worked for Paul Irbeck, Sr., Hulen Hill, and Bill Watson over the years. He was a member of the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olivia Basaldua in 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Sarah Basaldua; 4 brothers and 1 sister; and a grandson. He is survived by nine children, Guadalupe Trevino, Gloria Sassenhagen, Beatrice Villarreal, Sara Medina, Santos Basaldua, Jr., Rene Basaldua, all of Tulia, Armando Basaldua of Victoria, and Sylvia Esquivel, Jesse Basaldua of Plainview; 34 Grandchildren, 56 Great Grandchildren, and 19 Great Great Grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine Vargas of Abilene, Rosa Garcia of Arizona.
