Tulia, Texas—Delbert L. Devin, 90, died Sunday, July 31, 2011 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 3, 2011 in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ernie McGaughey officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A family and friends visitation will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 pm Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at the funeral home. Delbert Lee Devin was born August 5, 1920 in Swisher County to Thomas Lannie and Addie Dickenson Devin. He was a lifelong resident of Swisher County. He served in the US Air Force from 1944-1945 on a B-24 as a navigator. He was honorably discharged as a 2nd Lt. in 1945. He returned to Tulia and graduated from Texas Tech in 1946. He was a lifelong farmer in Swisher County. He married Betty McMurtry on September 1, 1946. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church where he worked with the youth as a counselor and sponsor for many years. He was the Swisher County Democratic Chairman for several years. He was the President of ‘STAND’; Serious Texans Against Nuclear Dumping for several years. He is preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 4 sisters, a grandson: Nickless Devin and an adopted granddaughter: Marfa Leatherman. He is survived by his wife: Betty Devin, two sons and daughters-in-law; Lee and Tracy Devin and children: Kaitlyn, Cecil and Jeanie and Dr. Mac and Karla Devin and children; Noel, Nelson and Neil, and his excellent caregivers: Rosalinda Subealdea, Stephanie Subealdea, Tina Garcia and Cris Evans.
