Imogene Wilmoth Harris – Tulia, Texas Imogene (MamaGene) Wilmoth Harris, 84, of Tulia passed from this earth into God’s loving arms Sunday, August 14, 2011 in Tulia. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 18, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Tulia with Rev. Donna Nelson, Rev. Jesse Hodge, and Mrs. Lee Moore officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. at the Claude Cemetery in Claude, Texas under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Imogene was born April 21, 1927 in Armstrong County to George and Ela Wilmoth. She grew up in Armstrong County, attended Fairview Community School and graduated from Claude High School. On June 30, 1946 Imogene married Fred Wayne Harris in Claude. They rejoiced in 40 years of marriage while farming and ranching in Swisher County and ministering and serving their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She graduated from West Texas State University with a Master’s degree in Speech & Hearing Pathology while raising her five children. Imogene was employed by Nazareth & Tulia School Districts in Speech Therapy and voluntarily aided many stroke victims. For several years she hosted a radio program on KTUE radio, reciting poetry and prose and inspirational literature. Above all else, MamaGene was an inspirational Christian and an uncommon woman. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tulia where she formed the Sisters in Christ Bible Study group. She worked tirelessly, as a leader, student and teacher of God’s word. MamaGene gently touched the heart, mind and soul of every person blessed to know her. Her husband Fred, preceded her in death in 1986. She is also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Joalene Hudson; one brother, Madison Wilmoth; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Runyon. MamaGene is survived by four daughters and one son, Peggy Guthrie of Happy, Rodney Harris of Happy, Shelley Fields and husband Jack of Claude, Mellody Harris of Tulia, and Polly Chester and husband Mitch of Sudan; one brother, George Wilmoth and wife Nelva Joyce of Anchorage, Alaska; one brother-in-law, C.M. Hudson of Claude; 13 Grandchildren, Leigh Schulte, Chad Noel, Hadley Harris and wife Tammy, Jeb Harris, Jeffrey Harris, Matt Cox and wife Melissa, Ben Cox and wife Suzie, Nancy Fields, Lindsey Slack and husband Ryan, Karli Fields, Jake Chester, Keela Chester, and Harris Chester; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; 5 nieces and 4 nephews and devoted family friend and caregiver Dianne Haney. Memorials may be made to the Tulia First United Methodist Church or a favorite Church Missions organization. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 17 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors from 5-7 p.m.
