Lou Starnes, 78, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007 in Amarillo. Graveside services will be held at 10:00am Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mr. Starnes was born on March 7, 1929 in Swisher County and attended schools here in Tulia. He served in the U.S. Army during the Kornean War. He was a Mechanic for Miller Auto for many years before starting Starnes with his brother Kenneth. They closed the shop in 1986 and he retired. He was a member of the V.F.W and the American Legion. Lou married Bettye Thurman on February 25, 1961 in Tulia, Texas Survivors include his wife Bettye Starnes of Tulia; daughter, Kay Weilhart of Oceanside, CA; five sons, Carl Ross of Amarillo, Clark Ross of Colorado Springs, CO, Wesley Ross of Tulia, Thurman Ross of Mesquite, Todd Starnes of Amarillo; one brother, Jack Starnes of Burnett; two sisters, Doris Preston of Abernathy and Bobbie Andrus of Kennedale; 16 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Gladys Starnes and two brothers, Bill Starnes and Kenneth Starnes.
