Tulia, Texas—William Ward Fisher, 89, passed away September 9, 2011 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 12, 2011 in the in Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Tulia with Lay Minister Lee Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. William Ward was born October 17, 1921 in Ridgeway, Texas. He attended school in Commerce, Texas before joining the Army in 1942. During World War II he served as a medic in North Africa, Italy and France until 1945. After he was discharged he met Tulia native, Lula Blaine (Lou) Barnes, while they both were living in Dallas. They were married in 1948. They moved to Tulia in 1949 where he worked for Hipp Elevator. He then engaged in farming and much later in his life went to work for Swisher County for 15 years while still farming. Lou passed away November 17, 1973. He married Nancy Fambro June 10, 1975. She passed away March 11, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents, C.R. and Ada Fisher; four brothers, Luke Fisher, Lovell Fisher, L.D. Fisher and Billy Joe Fisher; three sisters, Fenton Gibby, Joye Quary, and Mary Sue Payne; step-son, Tommy Fambro; and granddaughter, Lisa Gunkey. He is survived by his son, Jimmy and Debbie Fisher of Tulia; three daughters, Linda and Bobby Shipp of Tulia, Jan and Jimmy McCaslin of Tulia, and Vicki and Scott Sheets of Brewster, Kansas; one step daughter, Cathey and Phillip Gunkey of Tulia; sixteen grandchildren, Cherie Vanlandingham, Doyce Leatherwood, Justin Fisher, Dereck Milner, Danielle Williams, Doug Milner, Sondra Brown, Beau Sheets, Tad Sheets, Jason McCaslin, Lance McCaslin, Brandon McCaslin, Darren McCaslin, Shaunda Pyle, and Amy Gunkey and twenty-three great grandchildren.
