Edward Floyd Weil, 78, of Hale Center, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, September 19, 2011 at St. Alice Catholic Church with Father Jim McCartney officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 5:00 P.M. with a rosary service to follow at 6:00 P.M. at Kornerstone Chapel. Edward was born October 27, 1932 to Frank and Theresa Boes Weil. He graduated from Hale Center High School in 1950. He attended Texas A&M in 1951 and Texas Tech in 1952. He married Doris Nell Helton on February 4, 1954. They celebrated 53 years of marriage! Edward served in the US Army and was stationed in California and Washington State. After and Honorable Discharge, he returned to Hale Center and began his lifetime career as a farmer. He was awarded Outstanding Farm Bureau Family of the Year, Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year, a member of the board of Hale Center Wheat Growers, Soil and Water Conservation Board where he received a 30 year service award and was FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer. Mr. Weil served as President of the Hale Center School Board for several years. He was active in the Knights of Columbus at St. Alice Catholic Church He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Helton Weil; his parents, Frank & Theresa Weil; one brother, Bert Weil; and one sister, Louise Witkowski. Survivors include his three daughters and their husbands, Rebecca & Scott Snider, Annette & Mark Nanny both of Lubbock, TX, Rhonda & Jim Connolly of Plano, TX; seven grandchildren, Blake Snider & wife Jamie of Abilene, Jeff Snider & wife Jami of Conroe, Catherine Snider & Ann Marie Nanny of Dallas, Alexandra Nanny of Lubbock, Rachel & Anna Connolly of Plano. He has two great grandchildren Henley and Holston Snider of Abilene; one brother, Leo Weil of Hale Center; two sisters, Marie Byrd & Patsy Craddick both of Lubbock along with many nieces, nephews, and In-laws. The family wishes to express much gratitude to the Carillon Staff for their love and care this past year.
