Tulia, Texas-Sam Choate, 82, died Thursday, October 6, 2011 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 8, 2011 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Ed Soules, pastor of First Assembly of God Church in Tulia officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:30 to 6:00 pm Friday, October 7, 2011 at the funeral home. Samuel Edward Choate was born October 2, 1929 in McIntosh County, Oklahoma to Aaron David and Ozella Choate. He attended schools in Stidham and Haskell, Oklahoma. He served in the US Army from 1950-1952 in Korea and N. Japan. He married Emma Stidham on August 5, 1958 in Clovis, NM. He was an electrical construction foreman for D.R. Florence Construction Company working in Rockwall and Tulia, Texas for 37 years. He was a member of the VFW in Tulia. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son: George Choate, one brother: Lowell Choate and three sisters: Helen Choate, Sue Jones and Betty Pofahl. He is survived by his wife: Emma Choate of Tulia, three daughters and sons-in-law: Sammie and Paul Artho of Canyon, Tammie and Ed Patterson of Waxahachie and Bonnie and Jason Abraham of Canadian, one son and daughter-in-law: Johnny and Nikki Choate of Hobbs, NM. Two brothers: Kenneth Choate of Alma, Arkansas and Charlie Choate of Tucson, Arizona, one sister: Lois Cantrell of Haskell, Oklahoma and eight grandchildren: Kati Artho of Canyon, Maddie Abraham and Luke Abraham, both of Canadian, Sam Patterson and Abby Patterson, both of Waxahachie and Lincoln Choate, Sawyer Choate and Sayler Choate, all of Hobbs, New Mexico. Memorials may be made to the Tulia VFW, 300 SE. 2nd, Tulia, Texas 79088, Thomas Creek VA Hospital, 6010 Amarillo Blvd West, Amarillo, Texas 79106, Hospice Care of the Southwest, 1301 S. Coulter, Ste. 404, Amarillo, Texas 79106 or to the Hali Project/WTLC, 4515 Cornell St., Amarillo, Texas 79109.
