Leon Noel, 90, of Plainview passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Randy Noel officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Leon was born and raised on a farm southeast of Plainview on May 02, 1921. He finished high school and was soon drafted into the army during World War II. It was while he was stationed on a hospital ship (The Maetsuycker) in Sydney, Australia that he met his future wife, Patricia McIvor. They were married on December 15, 1945 and eventually Leon was discharged and returned to farming. Patricia joined him in Texas soon after. Leon is the father of six sons; Mike Noel & wife Anna of Sacramento, Ca, Gary Noel & wife Brenda of Ft. Worth, Paul & wife Teresa of Hot Springs, Jim of Ft Worth, Kenneth of Petersburg and Thomas of Pratt, Ks. Leon grew up on the family farm and farmed most of his life other than his service years during WWII. Leon was the oldest of Walter Sim and Numa (Booher) Noel’s eleven children. He is preceded in death by brothers Leonard Sim, Allen Burl, Alvin Hugh, Edward Benjamin, and Charles. His other two brothers are Don Noel of Big Spring, Texas and Howard Noel of Virginia. His surviving sisters are Eloise Pennington of Fort Worth, Neva Stallings of Troy, and Kathryn Ivey of Lubbock. At the time of his death Leon was living with his wife of sixty-five years, Patricia, at the Prairie House. His passion was the Texas Rangers during baseball season and the Dallas Cowboys during the football season. Though he declined to attend weekly mass with his wife and sons, his family best remembers him as a good Samaritan; always ready to lend a hand to a friend or stranger in need. Leon leaves behind eight grandchildren, Bailey, Burke, Jacob, Jeremy, Kathleen, McKenzie, Sean, and Stefanie. He is also survived by 13 great grandkids. He will be greatly missed by his family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Leon’s memory for Toys for Tots or some other worthy organization in the spirit of Christmas.
