Gene Austin Fullingim, 84, of Petersburg, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Petersburg with Jeff McCreight officiating. Burial will follow in Petersburg Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 P.M. on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview. Gene was born on December 24, 1926 in Petersburg, Texas to Samuel Austin & Blanche Fullingim. He grew up on the Family farm and attended schools in Estacado, Lorenzo and graduated from Petersburg High School. He married Charlene Jackson on October 25, 1948 in Amarillo. Mr. Fullingim was a cattle rancher and farmed in Crosby County and Floyd County for over 60 years. He served on the Board of Directors of the Petersburg Coop Grain, He was a 32nd degree Mason, a fiddle judge in Crosby County, a member of the Crosby County Sheriff’s Posse, the Shriners and First Baptist Church in Petersburg. Survivors include his children, Ann Underwood and husband Alan of Lubbock, Sid Fullingim of Petersburg, Eddie Fullingim and wife Leisa of Petersburg, Jenny Davidson of Lubbock; seven grandchildren: Cade Underwood and wife Shana of Lubbock, Josh Underwood and wife Jennifer of Lubbock, Miles Underwood and wife Jaci of Slaton, Brice Fullingim and wife Lisa of Kennewick, WA, Wade Fullingim of Petersburg, Alissa Tubbs and husband Jake of Garland, Heath Davidson and wife Lyndsey of Lubbock; and 13 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Charlene Fullingim and one brother Robert Fullingim, and parents Austin and Blanche Fullingim. The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church of Petersburg or Petersburg Cemetery Association.
