Wanda Gale Carter (Plainview)

Wanda Carter, 82, of Plainview, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2011. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 31, 2011 at First United Methodist Church with her brother Rev. Kenneth Rodgers officiating and Rev. Jeff Taylor assisting. Burial will follow at Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held on Friday evening, December 30, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m. Wanda was born on October 5, 1929 in Plainview, Texas to Virgil & Johnnie Rodgers. She grew up and graduated from Plainview High School. She attended and graduated from Wayland Baptist University. She married John Calvin Carter on August 25, 1950. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she served as the church visitation minister and also taught the Koinonia Sunday school. She served in numerous clubs and was a part of the Junior Service League and PEO. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Carter; and her parents, Virgil & Johnnie Rodgers, two brothers, Wilburn Rodgers, V.R. Rodgers, Jr., one sister, Gerrie Mote. Survivors include two sons, John David Carter & wife Karen of Bloomfield Hills, MI, and Robert Calvin Carter & wife Lorrie of Carrolton, TX; two brothers, Sydney Rodgers & wife Oneta of Plainview, TX, and Rev. Kenneth Rodgers & wife Marja of Kenoza Lake, NY; one sister, Vivian Smith of El Paso, TX; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church 1001 W. 7th Street Plainview, Texas 79072.
