Thelma "T.J." Evans (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas--Thelma “T. J.” Hefley Evans, died Thursday, January 12, 2012. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Monday at the First Baptist Church of Tulia with the Rev. Charles Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mrs. Evans was born in Briscoe, Texas and graduated from Briscoe High School and from West Texas State. She married the late B. Raymond Evans of Happy, Texas in 1946. Mrs. Evans and her husband were in the seed business as well as farming and made their home in Tulia. They were instrumental in the development and building of the Tulia Day Nursery, now known as Tulia Child Development. Mrs. Evans also served as President of the Ex-Student Association of West Texas State University. She bequeathed the Thelma and B. Raymond Evans Presidential Equestrian Scholarship at West Texas AM in 2008. Survivors include her daughter Deanne Evans Rogers and three grandsons, Evan Rogers, Jay Rogers and Ryan Rogers, all of Dallas, Texas. Visitation will be from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2011 at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers to Tulia Child Development, P.O. Box 361, Tulia, TX 79088 or to the First Baptist Church of Tulia at 101 North Crosby Ave., 79088.
