Tulia, Texas—James Preston Schmitt passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at his home in Tulia. Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 18, 2012 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Mr. Larry Stewart officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Jim was born on November 3, 1940 in Royal Oak, Michigan to Preston and Edna Schmitt. He grew up there and graduated from high school there. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961-1965. He was employed by 3M and served as a supervisor in Film processing division. He retired in 1988. He moved to Tulia in 1995. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, Nascar, and watching football. Jim is preceded in death by his parents: Preston and Edna Schmitt and one brother: Richard Schmitt. Survivors include Patsy Hooten of Tulia; one daughter, Jamie Schmitt of Hewitt, Texas; two sons, Matthew Schmitt and wife Cindy of Allen, Texas, Scott Schmitt of Amarillo, Texas; one brother, Douglas Schmitt and wife Beverly of Mill Hall, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Dianne Gardner and husband Al of Walled Lake, Michigan, Shirley Bivens and husband Bob of Michigan; and 7 grandchildren, Jonathon Myrick, Tori Lentz, Sierra Schmitt-Lawson, Marley Schmitt, Preston Schmitt, Emmi Jo Schmitt, Schyler Zolman. The family suggests memorials to the Swisher County Meals on Wheels or the National Alliance for Mental Illness.
