Marlin Miller, 75, of Plainview, passed away Friday, August 10, 2007 in Idalou. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Travis Hart officiating and Dr. Al Cornebise assisting. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Marlin was born on June 19, 1932 in Lockney. He grew up in Lockney and in Plainview. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1949. He then attended and graduated from Wayland Baptist University. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Ft. Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. He returned from his military service and started his Masters at Texas Tech University. He earned his private pilot’s license when he was 17 and his commercial license when he was 18. He joined his father at the family business, Miller Flying Service, where he remained until retiring in March of this year. He served as the Manager of the Hale County Airport for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Wayland Baptist University Alumni Association, Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association, and he was inducted into the Wayland Athletic Hall of Honor in 2002. He was a lifelong and avid supporter of girls’ basketball and a devoted fan of the Lady Raiders, Flying Queens and Lady Bulldogs. He is survived by his wife, Melinda Parish Miller of Idalou; two daughters, Marla Hartman of Victoria, TX, Michelle Crumley of Reno, NV; two step-daughters, Jennifer Parish and Stephanie Parish of New York City, NY; his mother, Elvie Miller of Plainview; one brother, Wayne Miller of Houston, TX; two sisters, Jan Cornebise of Greeley, CO, Kay Koepp of Lubbock; three granddaughters, Monica Arnold and Brianna Hartman of Victoria, and Chelsea Hartman of San Angelo, TX. The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. The family suggests memorials to Wayland Baptist University or Unger Memorial Library in Plainview.
