Elida Chavanna Martinez, 75, of Petersburg entered into rest Friday, August 10, 2007. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at First Baptist Church in Petersburg with Rev. Ted Wilson officiating and Roble Mireles and Owen Carr assisting. Burial will follow in Petersburg Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mrs. Martinez was born on September 10, 1931 in Dilley, Texas to the late Francisco and Santos Chavanna. Elida attended Dilley public schools. She was united in marriage to Ynocencio Martinez on April 29, 1950 in Dilley, Texas. He passed away on January 30, 2000. After moving to Petersburg, Elida worked for Eaves Grocery Store and Moore’s School Store. She proudly worked and retired from South Plains Health Provider Organization after 18 years as a CNA. She was a member of Petersburg Senior Citizens and the Petersburg Beautification Organization. She enjoyed embroidery, traveling, shopping and watching her grandchildren reach their accomplishments. She is survived by five sons: Isidro Martinez and wife Tommie of Sperry, OK, Elmo Martinez and wife Kathy of Tuscumbia, AL, Mario Martinez and wife Susie of Petersburg, Ricky Martinez of Petersburg and Larry Martinez of Petersburg; one daughter: Maria Herston and husband Ricky of Florence, AL; three sisters: Juanita Gonzales of Dilley, TX, Leonor Cantu of Pearsall, TX and Antonia Jaco of Fort Worth, TX; nine grandchildren: Marcos and John Paul (JP) Martinez of Oklahoma, Norman and Cassie Jo Martinez of Alabama, Homer Marquez of Plainview, Orlando Marquez, Daniel Martinez, Geraldo Martinez and Lorena Martinez all of Petersburg. She was preceded in death by her husband: Ynocencio Martinez; one daughter: Nelda Marquez; her parents: Francisco and Santos Chavanna; two brothers: Manuel and Frank Chavanna and one sister: Gloria Smith Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Petersburg Beautification Society.
