Tulia, Texas—Olivia Basaldua, 80, died Thursday, August 16, 2007 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Monday, August 20, 2007 in the Church of the Holy Spirit with Father Tony Neusch, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mrs. Balsaldua was born April 2, 1927 in Mission, Texas, she married Santos Basaldua, Sr. on Sept. 8, 1941 in Mission. They moved to Tulia in 1954. She was a homemaker. Rosary services will be held at 6:30pm Sunday, August 19, 2007 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Survivors include her husband, five daughters: Maria G. Trevino, Gloria Sassenhagen, Beatrice Villareal, Sara Medina, all of Tulia and Sylvia Esquivel of Plainview, four sons: Santos Basaldua, Jr. of Tulia, Armando Basaldua of Victoria, Texas, Jesse Basaldua of Tulia and Rene Basaldua of Tulia, nine brothers; Ishmael Garza of Mission, Herman Garza of Mission, Raul Garza of San Antonio, David Garza of Tulia, Mateo Garza of Salt Lake City, Utah, Oscar Garza of Mission, Pablo Garza of Salt Lake City, Utah, Rene Garza of Plainview and Ernesto Garza of Dimmitt, two sisters; Ernestina Valdez of California and Maria Rodriquez of Hereford, 34 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren.
