Tulia, Texas—Esse Carter, 100, died Monday, February 6, 2012 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, February 10, 2012 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Tulia. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Esse was born September 27, 1911 in Tulia to Fred and Iva Cox. She attended schools at Plains through the ninth grade and moved to Lubbock, attended and graduated from Lubbock High School. She married Glen Curtis Carter in 1929 and they lived in Yoakum County before moving to Swisher County in 1949. They farmed in Swisher County until 1973. While living in Swisher County she attended the Methodist Church in Happy, Texas. They moved to Amarillo in the early 1980’s. Survivors include her children: Fred Carter and wife Lounette of Amarillo, Mary Stubblefield of Amarillo, Bob Carter and wife Patsy of Lubbock, and Kim Carter and wife Peggy of Tulia, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents: Fred and Iva Cox, her husband: Glen Curtis Carter, one son: Curtis Carter and five brothers.
