Vera Ilene Strickland Wilson, 77, of Petersburg passed away on February 10, 2012 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Petersburg with Rev. Jesse James Nave officiating. Burial will follow in Petersburg Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Vera was born February 3, 1935 to Alvin & Bessie Strickland in Rochester, Texas. She married Billy George Wilson February 16, 1950. She was a homemaker. She worked in the Petersburg Cafeteria and kept kids in her home for many years. She enjoyed taking care of her family. She will be truly missed by all who loved her. Vera is survived by her husband of 61 years, Billy George Wilson of Petersburg, TX; three sons, David Wilson & wife Naomi of Gentry, AR, Larry Wilson & wife Shanda of Petersburg, TX, and Gerry Wilson & wife Debbie of Picayune, MS; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruby Juanita Caldwell of Lubbock, Wilma Jean Sanders & husband Travis of Coleman. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alvin & Bessie Fay Strickland; four brothers, William Calvin, Alvie “Cotton”, Lonnie Arlin, and Wilburn “Bud” Strickland; and one sister, Bobbie Louise Strickland.
