S.A. Hodges (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—S.A. Hodges, 83, died Wednesday, August 22, 2007 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Friday, August 24, 2007 in the Central Church of Christ with Eben Emerson and Bob Colson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. A visitation will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mr. Hodges was born August 18, 1924 in Groesbeck and growing up in Hardeman County and moving to Brownfield in 1940 and he later graduated from Brownfield High School. He joined the US Navy and served two years in WWII. After his discharge he attended Texas Tech where he won a spot on the basketball team but was not allowed to play because he had played semi-pro ball. He married Francis Sudderth on February 8, 1947 in Lubbock. They moved to Hale Center and farm until 1955 when they moved to Happy and farmed. He was a deacon and elder at the Happy Church of Christ. He served on the ASCS County Committee for several years. They moved to Tulia in 1980 where he became a Real Estate Broker and Certified Appraiser and opened Hodges Real Estate. He served on the Planning and Zoning Committee in Tulia for several years and was a member of Central Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife; Francis Hodges of Tulia, one son; Brent Hodges of Tulia, one daughter-in-law; Connie Wilson Hodges of St. Joseph, Missouri, one brother; Meredith “Jack” Hodges of Marble Falls, Texas. Memorials may be made to the High Plains Children’s Home, P.O. Box 7448, Amarillo, Texas 79114-9990 or to the BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, Texas 79106.
