Helen Munroe, 95, passed from this life on March 6, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Chino, California. A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Monday, March 12, 2012 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Plainview, Texas. Helen was a member of 9th & Columbia Church of Christ. Minister Evan Weiss will officiate the memorial service. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview. Helen was born July 22, 1916 in Ballinger, Texas to William Lester Smith and Arlie Evelyn Hanes Smith. Helen was the 5th of six children. Her father died of the influenza epidemic in 1918. Her mother died in 1966. Helen married Albert Munroe August 31, 1936. They managed a dry land farm and operated a small dairy in Roscoe, Texas, where their four daughters were born. In January 1952 the family moved from Nolan County to an irrigated farm and dairy in Hale County, northeast of Plainview. Helen learned the drapery business when she worked at Home Beautiful. In 1959 she started her own business, Helen Munroe Draperies, and in 1962 the family moved to a home in Hillcrest where she made drapes and custom linens for commercial and residential customers. She retired in 2001 to care for Albert, who died in March, 2001. Mrs. Munroe is survived by a sister, Pauline Heine of Sweetwater, Texas, four daughters, Cyndia and husband James Maxwell of Pleasanton, Texas, Mary Alice and husband Tom Reed of Chino, California, Nancy and husband Troy Carter of Plainview, and Janie and husband Jim Thomas of Amarillo, five grandsons, four granddaughters and 15 great grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be from 6 pm to on 8 pm at Kornerstone, Sunday, March 11. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Children’s Home of Lubbock
