Tulia, Texas— Walter Simon, 89, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005 in Tulia. Rosary services will be held at 7:00pm Friday, May 6, 2005 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005 at the Church of the Holy Spirit with Father Scott Raef, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Mr. Simon was born September 22, 1915 in Alva, Oklahoma. He grew up in Amarillo and attended Amarillo schools. He farmed in Amarillo until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1945. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to Amarillo to farm. He married Eleanor Reining on June 15, 1941 in Amarillo. She died July 19, 1989. He moved to Canyon and ran the Canyon Trading Post from 1955-1957 when he moved to Tulia. He was in the farm and irrigation business for several years. He owned and operated Simon’s 66 gas station from 1968-1979 in Tulia. He retired in 1979. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit. He married Pearl Doolin on December 29, 1993 in Tulia. He is also preceded in death by: Twin Great Grandsons: Tate and Tyler Buckner. Survivors include his wife: Pearl Simon of Tulia, Texas Five children: Pat Leach of Lubbock, Texas Linda Gales and Leland House of Tulia, Texas Milton and Simona Simon of Lubbock, Texas Annette and Volney Sprawls of Uvalde, Texas Mike and Kenna Simon of Tulia, Texas Two Stepchildren: Bob and LaVelta Doolin of San Angelo, Texas Neoma and Doyle Ozment of Tulia, Texas 6 Grandchildren: Tyneal Buckner, Trey Sprawls, Ray Sprawls, Crystle Sprawls, Lacy Simon, Abby Simon 6 Step-Grandchildren: D.J. Ozment, Bob Doolin, Jr., Tammie Grandon, Katherine McFadin, Grant Meyers, Roy Meyers 8 Great Grandchildren, 8 Step-Great Grandchildren and 1 Step-Great, Great Grandchild.
