Ida Belle Hawkins, 86, passed away peacefully in a Weatherford hospital, Thursday, October 4, 2007. She was born in Hereford July 15, 1921, the daughter of Cliff and Elizabeth Hicks. Mrs. Hawkins was a lifelong registered nurse in Amarillo and Tulia, where she and her husband, W.D. (Bill) Hawkins ran the local Dairy Queen for 20 years. Ida Belle spent the last 6 years of her life with her special friends at the Tulia Nursing Center, where she had been the charge nurse and administrator for many years, and then later at Peach Tree Place in Weatherford, Texas where she received the special love, care, and attention from their wonderful staff that made her last years happy and comfortable. Mrs. Hawkins was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; and brothers Donald Hicks and Elmo Hicks. She is survived by three sons, Bill Dean Hawkins, James Clifford Hawkins, Steve Hawkins and wife Anna Dee; one daughter, Sharon Allen and husband Mike; three grandchildren, Chris Allen, Tracy Allen, and Avery Hawkins; one sister, Mary Beth Smits and husband Jerry; a brother, Bob Hicks and wife Linda; and a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2007 at West Park cemetery in Hereford. Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia was in charge of local arrangements.
