Erma A. Franks (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas— Erma A. Cornell Franks, 99, died Monday, October 15, 2007 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 18, 2007 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. James Hassell, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Erma was born July 2, 1908 in Erath Co.; she was the third of eleven children born to Zemirah and Lizzie Cornell. Erma grew up in Cottle Co. She married Cheston Lawson Franks April 24, 1933 in Hollis, Oklahoma. They lived at Motley Co. and farmed until they moved to Tulia in 1944. They moved to Rogers, Arkansas in 1973. Mr. Franks died in April 1975. Erma moved back to Tulia in 1976 where she made her home and tended the business of their farms. Some of Erma’s pleasures were gardening and preserving all of her garden produce. She enjoyed piecing quilts; taking trips with her husband and children; visiting with her brothers and sisters; seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren and tending her dog, Randy. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Tulia since 1944. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers; Everett, Herman, Mutt, Z. C., Jr. and Bill Cornell; two sisters; Winnie Brown and Ruth Cunningham; two grandchildren; Karen Borchardt and Chris Kirk; two great grandchildren; Jared Rothfus and Makala Borchardt and one son-in-law; Bill Rothfus. She is survived by three daughters; Nesta Rothfus of Rogers, Arkansas, Neta Borchardt and her husband Edgar of Tulia and Nelda Kirk and her husband Wade of McLean, two sisters; Wanda Campbell of Liberal, Kansas, Lorene Kirkland of Amarillo and one brother; Clarence Cornell of Clarendon, seven grandchildren and their spouses; Bobby and Marlene Rothfus, Sherry and Richard Gray, Danny and Trina Rothfus, Brian and Natalie Borchardt, Rex and Teresa Borchardt, Mindy and Johnny Arnold and Maury and Tammy Rothfus and twenty great grandchildren; Janell and Jondon Rothfus; Leslie Gray; Serena, Zephyr, Brya and Ethan Rothfus; Tabitha, Holly, Emily and Jason Fraiser; Jacob, Mark and Naomi Borchardt; Josh, Caleb and Becca Arnold; Kara Lacey and Tiffany and Cheston Rothfus and several very special nieces and nephews.
