R.L. (Butch) Bryan (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—R.L. (Butch) Bryan, 77, died Tuesday, August 14, 2012 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 17, 2012 in the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 pm on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the funeral home. Butch was born on September 13, 1934, in Amarillo, Texas, to Gene C. and Bessie Bryan. He moved with his family to Tulia, Texas, where he graduated from Tulia High School in 1953. In 1954, he married Gloria Goodwin and they raised three children in Tulia. After spending many years farming with his family and working in the grocery store business, he worked as a cashier and loan officer for First State Bank in Tulia. He later managed the Production Credit Association office in Tulia. After retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, perfecting his cooking recipes and spending time with family. Mr. Bryan was a member of the Tulia Lion’s Club for many years. He was a board member for Tule Lake Golf Club and the Tulia Satellite Work Center. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tulia, where he taught Sunday school classes and assisted with department records. Mr. Bryan is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Jean Busick and husband, Kenneth; Tommie Garoutte and husband, Virgil; and Jo Schafer and husband, Delmer. He is survived by his wife, Gloria, of Lubbock; one brother, Garnett Bryan and wife, Cheryl, of Amarillo, one sister, Katy Darnall and husband, Rex, of Panhandle, three children: Regina Emmitt and husband, John, of Austin; Barbara Young and husband, Johnny, of Lubbock and Robert Bryan and wife, Lynne, of Nacogdoches, six grandchildren: Jennifer Kidd and husband, Brandon of Lubbock; Jaclyn Kelso and husband, Cody of Austin; Erin Emmitt of Austin, Kristin Bryan, Shelby Bryan and Valerie Cole of Nacogdoches; one great grandson: Weston Kidd of Lubbock. The family is requesting memorials be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O.
