Plainview – Funeral services for Jerald R. Martin, 79, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2005 at First Baptist Church Family Life Chapel with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mr. Martin had been in failing health several years and passed away suddenly in Covenant Medical Center of Lubbock, Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at 10:50 a.m. He was born March 19, 1926 in the Pecan Grove Community near Gatesville, Texas. After graduation from Gatesville High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He married Clara V. Bannister October 16, 1948. The Martins moved to Plainview in 1952. Mr. Martin was a well known masonry contractor in the South Plains area for more than forty years until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Plainview, American Legion and the Gideon Association. He is survived by his wife, Clara Martin of Plainview; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon & Mike Harder of Plainview, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry D. & Lynn Rader Martin of Longview, Texas; Five Grandchildren, Amy and husband Brent McGavock, Jordan and wife Ashley Harder, both of Lubbock, Andy and wife Ashley Harder of Dallas, Emily Martin of Dallas and Laura Martin of Lubbock; and one Great Grandchild, Caroline McGavock of Lubbock. He was preceded in death by his father, Marteen Martin in 1956, his step-father, W. H. Clark in 1991, and his mother Monette Clark in 1999.
