Tulia, Texas-Doris Todd Johnson, 87, died Sunday, September 23, 2012 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2012 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Charles Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Doris was born to Clarence and Margaret Todd, August 26, 1925, on the family homestead, sixteen miles west of Tulia, Swisher County, Texas. She was the fourth of six children. She grew up in Swisher County, going to school and working with the family in this farming and ranching community. She graduated from Happy High School and always enjoyed going back for homecoming celebrations. She attended Business College in Amarillo before leaving for California to be with her sister Marie. She worked at the post office and met the love of her life one day, when a very handsome sailor walked in to take care of business. Doris and Don were married in Burbank, California on May 6, 1945. They stayed in California for a couple of years, but she soon brought him to Texas. They farmed and helped with the ranching business, but then Don decided it was time to move to town. They moved to Amarillo and lived for 20 years, always planning to move to their dream home in the mountains of Colorado. They relocated to Colorado Springs in 1968 and lived the perfect life they had always planned. They were fortunate enough to see much of the United States and Canada in their motor home on several trips. They loved golfing, hunting, fishing, exploring the mountains and being together. She made every day count, making new friends along the way to add to their long list of old friends. She started a neighborhood dinner get together back I the 90’s that is still going strong today. She owned and operated a boutique/gift shop in the Old Depot I downtown Colorado Springs for many years and took great pride in her store. Some of her most fun trips were going to market to buy merchandise for the shop. She loved people and most of all, she loved her family. She always remembered the birthdays of all her siblings and their spouses and all her nieces and nephews. They remember her as being a very special “Aunt Doris”. Doris is preceded in death by her parents; Clarence and Margaret Todd, her husband: Don Johnson, three brothers: Dean Todd, Bill Todd and Jack Todd and one sister: Marie Cartwright. Doris is survived by her daughter: Sharon Hollingsworth and husband Lewis, two grandchildren: Todd Hollingsworth and Jaimi Suggs and husband Jimmy, three great grandchildren: Jacie, Justis and Jate Suggs.
