Plainview – Donna Haygood Sarchet passed away 7:35 p.m. Monday, July 4, 2005 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005 at First Baptist Church Sanctuary with Dr. Travis Hart pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mrs. Sarchet was born August 16, 1958 in Arlington to Clifford and Mary Lou Haygood. She graduated from Borger High School in 1976, where she was an honor student and active in band and theater. She married Kerry Sarchet in 1978. She received an Associate of Arts degree in business from Frank Phillips College of Borger. She then earned a BBA degree at Hardin Simmons University, where she was recognized as the highest ranking senior in the January 1979 graduating class. While at H-SU, she qualified for membership in MENSA and in Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society. Mrs. Sarchet received her MBA degree from Texas Tech University, where she was a graduate assistant and the first student to receive the Malouf Abraham Business Scholarship. She joined the faculty at Wayland Baptist University as an Assistant Professor of Business Administration. While employed at WBU for 22 years, she was awarded the Outstanding Faculty Award by the Board of Trustees and The Distinguished Service Faculty Award by the Association of Former Students. She became a licensed CPA in 1991. Mrs. Sarchet was active in local and state genealogical activities. While serving as vice president of the High Plains Genealogical Society, she made several presentations at area and state levels. She was a also a member of the DAR, First Baptist Church, and the Cooper Couples Sunday School Class. In 1999, she became the first director of Bible Drill activities for youth in grades 4-6. From 1999-2005 85 youth participated, with many advancing to the district and state levels. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Rebekah, a freshman at WBU, Rachel, a freshman at Plainview High School; her mother, Mary Lou Haygood of Plainview; two half-brothers and wives, Gerald and Dorothy Haygood of Plano, and Dr. Donald and Doris Haygood of Tyler.
