Tulia, Texas—Mary Lee Singer, 89, died Sunday, November 18, 2007 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2007 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. James Hassell, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Castro Memorial Gardens in Dimmitt. Mary Lee was born March 4, 1918 in Ozona, Texas to William and Mary Lula Young Alexander. She attended grade school and high school in Hereford where she graduated from high school in 1937. She married Robert A. Singer on April 18, 1939 at her parents home in Hereford. They lived in Dimmitt for 1946 to 1966. She learned accounting via a correspondence course in 1960. While raising four kids she also was a bookkeeper in her home for over 50 businesses and farms and prepared taxes for over 200 families and business’. While in Dimmitt she was a member of First Baptist Church and was President of the Dimmitt Garden Club. They moved to Tulia in 1966 after Mr. Singer purchased the Tulia Cable/TV business. Mary Lee helped set up the bookkeeping system for the cable company. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Tulia since 1966. She was also an accomplished artist and in 1967 she won 1st place in the amateur division and 3rd place over all at the Southwestern Art Festival in Ruidoso, NM for her painting, Autumn Velvet. She was prolific in needlepoint, knitting and quilting where she made gifts for many family members and friends. She was secretary/treasurer for the Swisher County Museum for 10 years. She became a Daughters of American Revolution member in 1965 and she and Barbara Foremen worked side by side to establish the Tulia Chapter of DAR in 1983. She was very active in the DAR and attended many state conventions and was a two-time delegate to the National DAR Convention in Washington. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Robert A. Singer, a daughter; Doris Lee Singer, a son; Robert A. Singer, Jr. and a sister; Beverley Ruth Blosch. Survivors include a daughter: Alexandra Nagy and her husband Steve of Rockwall, one son; Lloyd Singer of Tulia, two granddaughters; Robin Nagy Hope of Rockwall and Ramie Singer of Austin, one grandson; Stephen Nagy, Jr. of Rockwall and four great grandchildren; Shelby Nicole Hope, Brittany Hope, Brandon Hope and Madison Brooke Nagy all of Rockwall.
