Tulia, Texas— Charles Louis Tanner, 73, of Tulia, died Friday, November 23, 2007 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Monday, November 26, 2007 at the Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Helms and Rev. James Sain, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Charles was born in Quitaque, Texas on February 4, 1934 to Austin Louis and Lillie Belle (Morris) Tanner. He grew up in Flomot and graduated from Flomot High School in 1951. He enlisted in the US Army in 1955, where he served in the 11th Airbourne Division “Angels” and was discharged in 1958. He moved to Tulia in 1959 and married Sue Potter on June 30, 1960. Charlie worked in agriculture around Tulia for over 30 years as a farmer, rancher and manager of Lively-Bagley and Tule Creek Gins. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Tulia VFW and American Legion and the Masonic Lodge. Charles is survived by his wife; Sue, two daughters; Kim Caraway and husband Randy of Tulia and Jamie Villegas and husband Bob of Tulia, two sons; Robert Tanner and wife Pam of Tulia and Chad Tanner of Austin, Brother-in-laws; Danny Potter of Dumas and Joe Ike Clay of Flomot; his mother-in-law; Marzelle Arnold of Tulia, special family members; Rusty and Tonya Ray of Idalou, 13 grandchildren, 1 great, grandchild. “Bubber” is also survived by four sisters; Geneva “Bo” Martin of Flomot, Joy Barham of Hart, Anna Beth Clay of Flomot and Carolyn Ewing of Matador. He will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews and life-long friends. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, 701 N. El Paso, Tulia, Texas 79088, Family and Friends visitation will be held at Kornerstone Funeral Directors from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2007.
