Tulia, Texas— Jean Songer, 66, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007 in Tulia. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2007 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Tulia with Rev. Kay Reed, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Tulia officiating. Jean was born on October 28, 1941 in Dallas. She grew there and graduated from W.W. Samuels High School in 1960. She married Bennie Tanner in 1960. They were married for 17 years. She was a certified nurse’s aid for several years. She was also a housewife and mother who served as PTA President and Girl Scout Leader. She was a member of Tundra First Baptist Church in Canton, Texas. She moved to Tulia 12 years ago. While in Tulia she attended the First Untied Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Tim and Mable McGregor and one sister Virginia Hammon. Survivors include one daughter; Lisa Evans of Tulia, one sister; Tessie Durham of Canton, Texas and two granddaughters; Kami and Abbey Evans, both of Tulia and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks goes to The Sonshine Girls who came to the nursing home and fixed Jean’s hair and nails every week.
