Martha Jane Lumpkins (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas— Martha Jane Lumpkins, 95, died Saturday, December 1, 2007 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2007 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Tulia with Rev. James Hassell, pastor of First Baptist Church of Tulia. Burial will follow in Littlefield Cemetery in Littlefield under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Martha was born September 7, 1912 in the Oklahoma Territory. She grew up in Springlake, Texas and attended schools at Olton. She married W. J. Lumpkins, Sr. in March, 1929. He died in July 1990. She lived in Tulia since 1929. She was a dorm mother at South Plains College in Levelland and also at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. She was a librarian at Swinburn Elementary in Tulia for several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Tulia. Survivors include one daughter; Lola Jo Stevens of Amarillo and two sons; Charles Lumpkins of Tulia and W.J. Lumpkins, Jr. of Alexandria, Virginia, 3 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.
