G.E. "Doug" Douglass (Plainview)

G.E. “Doug” Douglass, 92, of Plainview passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012 at his home in Plainview. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 11, 2012 at First United Methodist Church Sanctuary. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the funeral home. G.E. was born June 24, 1920 to Joseph and Erma Lou Douglass in Decatur, TX. He graduated from Gainesville High School. In 1942 he graduated from Texas A & M where he was commissioned into the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. Following graduation he enlisted and served as an infantry soldier during World War II. He married Dorothy Lea “Dottie” Crook, May 21, 1943 in an army chapel at Camp Robinson, Arkansas. After returning home from the war he took a job working for the Gulf Oil Corporation. He soon decided that moving his family around wasn’t such a good idea. In September of 1958 he purchased an Oil Company in Plainview where he finally settled down. During his years in Plainview he was a member of Lions Club, YMCA, Chamber of Commerce, and First United Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Lea “Dottie” Douglass; and one brother, J. Earl Douglass. He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Kersh & husband Ronald of Elizabethtown, KY; one son, Ken Douglass & wife Sue of Plainview, TX; one brother, Jack Douglass of Houston, TX; one sister Luann Walden of Burleson, TX; five granddaughters, Jennifer Martin of Elizabethtown, KY, Melony Bishop of Long Valley, NJ, Melissa Jones of Aledo, TX, Lindley Herring of Dallas, TX, Sarah Kersh of Nashville, TN. Memorial may be made to Honor Flight in care of America Supports You Texas-South Plains Chapter, P.O. Box 94787 Lubbock, Texas 79493, First United Methodist Church 1001 W.7th Street Plainview, Texas 79072 or a charity of your choice.
